CHCSS00097 Individual Support - Ageing Support Skill Set

Course Overview

This course introduces the skill requirements for providing person centred support to older people in various settings.  It focusses on empowerment of older people and meeting their personal support needs as well as providing specialised support to people living with dementia.


This skill set is for people working in various care and support roles in the community services industry who wish to develop skills specific to the aged care sector.


  • Enhanced career opportunities for experienced personal care or community sector employees
  • Access to experienced trainers and community sector expert

Career Opportunities

  • These units provide a pathway for experienced community care and personal care workers into the aged care sector. These units also provide credit towards a range of qualifications in the CHC Community Services Training Package at Certificate III or Certificate IV level.

Course Duration

This course is a 6-week course.

Units of Competency

This skill set consists of three compulsory units:


  • CHCAGE001 - Facilitate the empowerment of older people
  • CHCAGE005 - Provide support to people living with dementia
  • CHCCCS011 - Meet personal support needs

Entry Requirements

To access funding students must be:

  • 16 – 24 years of age
  • no longer at school;
  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen;
  • living or working in NSW.


You must complete a pre-course quiz to help us to assist you with your learning.


Please note that you will need reading skills to be able to read and interpret policies, procedures and client documents and prepare client notes.

Accreditation & Award

On successful completion of your training and assessment you will be eligible to receive CHCSS00097 Individual Support -Ageing Skill Set

Delivery Locations

This course will run face to face, 9 am to 3.30 pm two (2) days per week over six weeks.  This is flexible to the needs of the organisation. In addition, students will be required to complete eight (8) self-paced work each week.  Student Study Hub is offered from 3.30 pm to 4.30 pm.
