Statement of Attainment in Individual Support (Communication and Empowerment of Older People)

Course Overview

This course provides foundational skills and knowledge required communicate with effectively with clients, colleagues, management and other service providers in the community care sector.  In addition the course provides the skills to provide individual support services in a manner that focuses on improving health outcomes and quality of life for older people, using a person-centred approach.

Learning Outcomes

In this course you will learn how to:

  • Communicate with and support older people and overcome barriers to communication such as deteriorating eyesight, hearing or speech
  • Promote health and re-enablement of older people including how to encourage clients to take control of their own care

Career Opportunities

  • Students undertaking this course will have enhanced career opportunities for entry level care roles in a residential or community context. These units also provide a pathway to Certificate III Individual Support and other qualifications from the Community Services Training Package.

Entry Requirements

To access funding you must be:

  • Between 16 and 24 years of age
  • no longer at school;
  • Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen;
  • living or working in NSW.

 

Students will need to undertake an LLN quiz prior to enrolment.  This quiz will help us to determine the appropriate level of academic support that will be needed to successfully complete your training and assessment.

 

Please note that you will need reading skills to be able to read and interpret policies, procedures and client documents.

Accreditation & Award

On successful completion of your training and assessment you will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment in Individual Support (Communication and Empowerment of Older People)

Delivery Locations

This course will run face to face, 9 am to 3.30 pm two days per week for two weeks.
