Course Overview

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty in line with first aid guidelines determined by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.

Throughout this full 1 day of interactive class activities; we cover in-depth the skills and knowledge required to provide a first aid response to a casualty.

It meets the requirements of a ‘senior first aider’ and incorporates hands-on CPR demonstrations on both adults and infants with and without the use of a pocket mask. It also covers asthma attack management, anaphylaxis treatment and basic life support techniques.

This certificate has 3-year validity.

Target Audience

The unit applies to all persons who may be required to provide a first aid response in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings.

Benefits

Provide First Aid provides the benefits of allowing those trained with the potentially life saving ability to assist an injured or ill person during a variety of emergency situations.

Knowledge in First Aid benefits the individuals themselves regardless of whether an emergency affects them directly or involves people they live and work with.

While everyone can benefit from First Aid knowledge and training it is an even greater benefit to those working or living with individuals who require ongoing special attention or treatment.

Learning Outcomes

In this course you will learn about how to:

 

  • Respond to an emergency situation
  • Apply appropriate First Aid procedures to a variety of situation including performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation and correct use of first aid equipment.
  • Communicate details of the incident – including workplace documentation and / or to emergency services in attendance.
  • Review the incident including ensuring the wellbeing of self and others.

Course Duration

This course is a 1 day course.

Pre-requisites

Must complete the Pre-Course learning material and questions prior to attendance of this training.

Must attend the face-to-face course.

Entry Requirements

  • The minimum age to attend a course without an adult is 14 years, and children between 10 years and 13 years of age can attend accompanied by an adult. There is no maximum age.
  • Have 100 points of Identification.

Assessment

You will be assessed with theory work booklets and practical assessments.

Accreditation & Award

On successful completion of this course and the assessments you will receive a Statement of Attainment in HLTAID011 Provide First Aid
