Course Overview

Traffic Control is a high-risk occupation and one that requires specific training around awareness and management of live sites.

This combination Traffic Control course provides required skills and knowledge for the Traffic Controllers to ensure the safety of traffic controllers, fellow workers, motorists and other road users as well as knowledge and skills to identify risks associated with planning for and implementing traffic control plans.

The Traffic Controller component of this course is a mandatory training requirement for persons involved in controlling traffic using a stop-slow bat or boom gate.


  • This course provides training and practical application to give you the confidence to work safely and effectively on a live traffic site.
  • This training meets the requirements for a Safework NSW Traffic Controller Card.

Learning Outcomes

  • Risks to workers, motorists, road users and traffic controllers when conducting traffic control
  • Government requirements and risk management strategies to address traffic control risks
  • Procedures for setting up and managing traffic flows with signage, a stop/slow bat and portable traffic control devices

You must hold a construction induction white card and provide it on request at training.

Entry Requirements

Entry requirements into Traffic Control:

  • Must be at least 17 years of age
  • Must attend all three days of training


Assessment delivered via work booklets and practical assessment which include demonstrating skills in a live traffic environment.

Accreditation & Award

On successful completion of this course you will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment in Traffic Control for the units listed above.  You will also be eligible for a SafeWork NSW TCWT card for Traffic Controller and Implementer.
