Statement of Attainment in Hospitality (Responsible Gambling, Service of Alcohol and Hygiene)

Course Overview

This course provides an introduction to the hospitality industry for full-time, part-time and casual roles.  It is suitable for entry level roles where you may be involved in serving food and alcohol and support gambling services providing in hotels and clubs.


To sell, serve or supply alcohol in NSW, you must complete an RSA training course provided by an approved training provider. In addition responsible provision of gambling services is an essential underpinning skill for all hospitality personnel involved in the sale and service of gambling activities in licensed premises.  This course will equip you with these skills.

Target Audience

This course is suitable for individuals seeking entry level roles in the hospitality industry.


You will receive an introduction to the hospitality industry which will assist you to engage confidently in the service of alcohol, conduct of gambling and hygienic food service.

Learning Outcomes

You will learn about:

  • Completing identification checks for service of alcohol and implementing responsible gambling practices
  • Dealing with patrons purchasing alcohol and purchases gambling services, including providing assistance and addressing potential conflicts with refusal of service.
  • Handling and serving food in a hygiene manner

Career Opportunities

  • Hospitality roles that may include bar work, serving food and providing gambling services in hotels, clubs and restaurants

Course Duration

This course runs for three consecutive days from 9am to 4pm.

Units of Competency

  • SITHGAM001 - Provide responsible gambling services
  • SITXFSA001 - Use hygienic practices for food safety
  • SITHFAB002 - Provide responsible service of alcohol

Entry Requirements

To access this funded program you need to be:

  • Aged 17-24
  • NOT enrolled in school
  • An Australian citizen or Permanent resident, Australian humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen;
  • Currently living in NSW

Students must also have language, literacy, and numeracy (LLN) skill sufficient to complete the course, for example, to read materials relevant to the course, participate in discussions and roleplays and read and interpret signage. This will be tested through a LLN quiz as part of the course entry process which will assist the College to determine the level of support the student will need to successfully complete your learning.

Accreditation & Award

On successful completion of this course which includes assessment using questions and practical demonstrations, you will be eligible to receive a Statement of Attainment in Hospitality (Responsible Gambling, Service of Alcohol and Hygiene).

You will also be eligible to apply for a Liquor and Gaming Competency Card for RSA and RCG.
